Two Decades of Experience Helping our Communities Get Ahead

Sara Hernández understands the issues facing our communities, because she's lived them in the classroom as a teacher, in the courtroom as a lawyer, in the boardroom as a non-profit founder and executive director, as a trustee for the LA Community College District and as a 20-year resident of our community and as a mom.

Sara knows good policy only happens when our leaders know from experience how it actually plays out on the ground. Sara has two decades of experience increasing success for students, protecting our immigrant communities, and helping more families reach the middle class.

The Record of Accomplishments We Can Count On

Sara has spent her career fighting for working families, students, and immigrants — and she'll bring that same fight to Sacramento.

01

Protecting Immigrant Families and Students

Sara has the experience to protect our immigrant communities against the abuses of ICE. Sara Hernández has provided extensive free legal services to help immigrants in asylum proceedings who are escaping devastating violence and government oppression. Sara is also involved with the Southern Immigrant Freedom Initiative which represents detained immigrants at detention centers and assisted immigrant students with the renewal of their DACA status.

02

Backed by Nurses, Teachers, Unions, and Housing Rights Groups

Sara Hernández has earned the endorsements of nurses, teachers, unions, and housing rights groups because she knows the costs of living—housing, healthcare, and insurance are making it harder to live in the neighborhoods we grew up. She'll work with unions and housing groups to address the affordability crisis with the urgency it deserves and help working people get ahead.

Helping Students Prepare for College and Good-Paying Careers

Sara Hernández began her career as an LAUSD middle school teacher where she founded a non-profit that helped low-income students and provided educational opportunities and resources that empowered them to graduate better prepared for good-paying careers and college.

As a Los Angeles Community College District Board Trustee, Sara has worked to make a college degree more obtainable and affordable, provide resources for homeless and housing-insecure students and expand access to construction trades apprenticeship programs for students.
